Celebrating World Refugee Day as an IRC Youth Mentor

Working as an International Rescue Committee Youth Mentor has been extremely rewarding. This past weekend, I took my mentee’s family to an event celebrating World Refugee Day. I picked up three of the children and their mom, and headed to the event which was located at the Emergency Care Health Organization (ECHO).

When we arrived, I honestly did not except for the event to be that large! The venue was packed with families and children in celebration. There were all different kinds of activities, such as bouncy houses, face-painting, and corn-hole. In addition, there was donated household goods and toys for families to take home. I helped load items my mentee’s family wanted to bring home, back into my car.

This event really showed solidarity in the Tallahassee community, it and was great seeing families come together and celebrate.
