Andy Mills: Curating Space and Time

Hello devoted readers,

As May comes to a close, I’m finding myself falling into a good rhythm with my IDEA Grant project. My class schedule is low right now, so I’m able to plan my days around reading, writing, and researching. At the beginning of the month, I moved art studios, which was a long and laborious process. Now that I’m finished with the move though, I have a great place to come work every day with two large tables to spread my research across. I find that having a curated space devoted to my work helps me immerse myself in my projects and get things done in a timely manner.

However, as the summer progresses, I anticipate things getting a bit more challenging. The biggest hurdle I see coming is the course load I will have once Summer B starts. For now, I’m only taking an online asynchronous art history course and a once-a-week science lab. But soon enough, I will also be taking two in-person English courses Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Whew. It’s definitely going to be a lot to handle. That being said, I think I can mitigate the stress of this increased load two ways. First, I would like to get as much work done as possible before Summer B begins. This is easier said than done, of course, but I have made good work already. Second, I think the schedule that I am building now will save me. I will have to change it a bit with the new classes, but my routine as it is now is meant to be restructured.
