This weekend, I had a very unique experience throughout my experience thus far at the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory. On Sunday, June 18th, I stayed in one of the on-site dorms at FSUCML. It was a nice experience and reminded me of the dorm I used to live in during my freshman year here at FSU. I arrived late in the evening following the hour long drive to reach the lab, ate dinner and settled in. It was a small room with a half-kitchen but the bed was fairly comfy.
I’m very glad I decided to stay in the dorm the night before because waking up at 5:30am was quite a bit earlier than my usual morning routine. I got ready and walked across the parking lot to meet the lead technician I have been working with, as well as another technician that would be coming with us. We packed up the truck and drove about an hour out to Indian Lagoon along the bay. I have never been to this part of Florida and I enjoyed driving through the quaint town of Apalachicola.
Following this, the three of us took to the kayaks and collected oysters from each of the five reef sites in Indian Lagoon. The weather was mostly overcast, which I was grateful for, since it was so humid out. Overall, I feel very privileged to experience data collection through FSU CML, even though the rain decided to downpour as I was walking to my car.
